4Q (Four Dimensional Quantification) is a general purpose medical image viewing and analysis tool. The interface uses a dissection metaphor to guide automated tissue segmentation and subsequent parameter calculation in a simple and intuitive manner. Images are displayed in 2D side by side, 3D fly away, volume surface, and movie views for dynamic acquisitions. All formats are designed to assist perception of imaged tissues.

Tissue segmentation uses an edge detection process published by the author. A single touch on any tissue object in any slice with mouse and cursor initiates detection. Detection is propagated to other slices automatically. Volumetric data are automatically computed from volume images (stacks of 2D slice images). A curve view displays volume, ejection fraction, and ejection rate for volume image series.

The computer brain uses a retina field of view centered at the current tissue location to optimize edge detection sensitivity. The brain can be taught to recognize tissue objects based on your input of tagged segmented objects. You have complete control over which objects you want the brain to observe to build up experience. All processing is completely transparent. All observations are stored on disk.

Tissues are dissected by selecting a region, cutting it and removing a piece with mouse and cursor. An additional set of editng features includes:

Removal of a single region
Removal of a region through all time phases
Removal of all regions

Segmentations cannot be manually drawn.
